Planting & Care
1. Planting: Make sure to place the plant in a container near indirect sunlight for at least four hours per day. Use moist and well-draining soil, and allow the soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Avoid placing the Song of India plant anywhere near a slightly cold draft.
2. Watering: When watering your plant, allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out before watering again. Water slowly for even soil moisture, and use a humidifier or mist regularly in winter. Keep the soil moist but not soaked from spring through fall. In winter, the Song of India requires less water. Overwatering can cause root rot. Use bottled or purified water, as the plant is sensitive to fluoride. Wilting may indicate fluoride damage.
3: Fertilizing: Fertilize your plants during the production phase with slow-release fertilizer. If you decide to fertilize later, use a slow-release fertilizer for interior plants that lasts for around 180 days. Feed the plant every two weeks with a water-soluble 10-10-10 fertilizer that has been diluted by half during spring and summer. No feeding is needed during winter months.
4. Pruning: Song of India plants generally do not require pruning, but if the stems become too long or leggy, you can trim them to promote fuller and bushier growth. To prune your plant, use a clean pair of gardening shears to cut the stem at the base where it protrudes from another stem. New leaves will eventually grow from the cut location and help to fill out the plant.
